National park Nockberge

The Nockalm-Street - shows the wonders of nature in their full glory

For every nature lover the ride in the "Nockberge" is a memorable adventure. The nearly 35 km long "Nockalm"-street with numerous turnings shows an area with an especial scenic attractiviness.  

The "Nockberge" are Europe's only existing nationalpark in the mild high mountains with the biggest spruces-, larch- and swiss stone pine-wood in the eastalps. The memorable appearance from the rounded "Nock´n" is counted to the curiosities of the geological history and is singular in the entire Alpsarea. In case of the light acclivity, the street is an unique pleasure for driver, motor-cyclist and cyclist. Well conducted gastronomic services offer food and drinks for the physical well-beeing.

On both sides of the street is the extensive walkingarea from the nationpark with countless and well marked pathes. The rounded "Nocken", oscillated alp-formations with coniferous forests and clear mountain-lakes are unique in this region and in whole Europe. This kind of Alps are only existing in this region und they are meant for comfortable hikes.  

The distinctive geological characteristic and the manifold biota have been the reason why the "Nockberge" has been accounted to a nationalpark, in 1987. If you hike from the surrounded vales (sea level 1000m) up to the highest top of the "Nockberge" (sea level 2400m) it is comparable with a botanical excursion from the Bohemian Forest up to far in excess of the Polarkreis. Initial point is the 34 km long "Nockalm"-street, where you can find the 6 informationcenters. It plays no role where you hike, you will always pass an alp lodge where a carinthian meal or an other delicacy is waiting for you.
